A black belt is a white belt who never quits.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, MMA and kids martial arts in Jupiter, Florida. That line is painted on our wall. A husband and wife team built this academy around it, for kids from age 4 to adults who have never trained a day.
Team Nogueira Bloise Academy
Master Wald Bloise keeps a card for every student. Each class starts with what you already know and builds one step past it. Nobody gets thrown to the wolves. Nobody gets left behind.

Master Wald
Who can beat the lion? The shark. If the lion is in the water.
One of Master Wald's favorite lines, as a student wrote it down. Train here, and anyone who attacks you finds out they have fallen into a shark tank.
Self-defense
first. Points
later, if ever.
A lot of jiu-jitsu gyms teach for the scoreboard. Here, the fundamentals start with what happens off the mat, where nobody taps and there is no referee: an argument that turns, a sucker punch, a grab, a choke, a headlock.
Once you can protect yourself, the art opens up: the guard, the sweeps, the submissions and, when you are ready, live rolling with skilled partners.
01
A set series of lessons
Each class reviews what you have learned, then adds the next piece. Every move is broken into parts, shown, explained and drilled.
02
No meat grinder
New students start in beginner classes and do not spar until they are ready. People in their 40s and 50s, with bad shoulders, knees and backs, train here.
03
Families on one mat
Coach Bruna can be teaching the kids while a parent trains with Master Wald on the same night. Plenty of families here train together.
For kids
Stripes are earned off the mat too.
Each month the kids program works on one character concept, and class ends on a word they talk about together. One mom said her boys' word was accountability. Young kids learn striking and self-defense with no chokes or submissions, from coaches who get down to their level and expect respect both ways. There is even a Parents' Night Out.
Show up
Attendance earns stripes. Consistency is the first skill.
Do the monthly assignment
Every month, an assignment that ties class to life at home.
Eat well
Healthy eating is rewarded, so good habits start early.
Earn the next belt
Every few months, a belt ceremony in front of the whole academy.
The people
Treated like family.
Master Wald Bloise and Coach Bruna Bloise are the head instructors, with Coach Ana alongside them in the kids program. Students talk about the same things again and again: how patient the coaches are, how clean and organized the academy is, and how quickly a new student is treated like family.
Our day-one packet says it plainly: Learn to Defend Yourself. One dad wrote that after eight years here, his family realized it means much more than fighting.
If you really want to learn this martial art the right way without getting tossed into a meat grinder with some angry 19-year-old who wants to kill you while you are just trying to learn, then this is the place for you.
Our daughter started in kindergarten and has essentially grown up in this program. Each year we have seen her develop more confidence, discipline, and leadership skills. She has learned to stand up for herself and for others, both on and off the mats.
As a female, I was intimidated to start, but realized I needed to learn some self-defense. Everything I have learned is very applicable to real world situations. Size and strength are not key factors.
Wald's classes have been the most effective and meaningful treatment for my post-traumatic stress and traumatic brain injury. I am so fortunate to have found this place.
I have seen huge improvements in my son's confidence. He rarely ever says "I can't do it" anymore. And when he does, we are able to get him through those feelings much quicker.
There is also a lifestyle taught, with a special word they discuss and learn at the end of class. Ours was accountability. Kids are rewarded for healthy eating, bringing friends and showing up!
Questions
Before you
walk in.
How old does my child need to be to start?
Little Champs starts at age 4 and runs to 7. Junior Champs is ages 8 to 12. From 13 up, students join our Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and MMA classes.
I have never done martial arts and I am not in shape. Can I start?
Yes. Beginners start in beginner classes with no sparring, and every technique is broken down step by step. Students here range from teenagers to people in their 40s and 50s, many with old injuries.
Will martial arts make my child more aggressive?
No. Self-defense here comes with respect, self-control and learning how to calmly defuse a conflict. Parents regularly tell us the opposite happens, including a grandmother whose grandson stopped bullying after his first class.
What is the difference between Jiu-Jitsu and MMA?
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is mostly grappling and ground work, taught here with a self-defense focus. MMA adds striking and takedowns, so you learn to handle a fight standing and on the ground.
Can parents and kids train at the same time?
Often, yes. Kids and adult classes can run back to back or side by side, and plenty of families here train together. Ask us which times line up for your family.
